An open letter to Public Health England on Vaccine Safety

When it comes to vaccines there appears to be mass cognitive dissonance, they’re touted as a saviour to mankind, a complete no brainer and anyone who questions their safety record is labelled as paranoid, anti-vax or ignorant. Our public health authorities are promoting vaccines as though they are akin to banana smoothies, local authorities ask parents to give reasons for not consenting as if the vaccines are completely risk free and nobody ever gets injured.

In the UK Millions of people play the lottery every week in the hope of winning the jackpot but did you know that you are statistically more likely to be severely injured following a vaccine then you are to win the UK lottery? At a glance the odds are extremely long, less than 1 in 1 million doses is known to cause a serious life changing allergic reaction, whereas you have about a 1 in 14 million chance of winning the lottery! The general consensus appears to be that it is OK that 1 person in a Million may be injured (takes it for the team) because the other 999,999 people are protected from the nasty viruses. However, when you consider that a young person could potentially have 20 plus vaccines by their 15th birthday then the odds of a reaction are greatly reduced (to about 1 in 640,000). The NHS and Public Health England regularly refer to vaccines as safe, however, in pretty much every vaccine on the market you’ll find the same pattern of really severe life changing side effects popping up in roughly 1 in a million doses. Of course, most people will only experience mild side effects, a few (about 1 in 3,000) will experience something more moderate, but unfortunately that 1 person in every million doses will come away with severe damage. This is what lead to the US Supreme Court to state in 2011 that:"Vaccines are unavoidably unsafe"; Based on these facts alone can we really say that any vaccine is safe?

I am calling for our public bodies to stick with the facts and stop calling vaccines safe, what follows is an open letter to Dr Joanna Cartwright, consultant in health protection at Public Health England, she was recently quoted saying that the MMR vaccine is safe and this is clearly not the case for everyone. If you’re concerned about vaccines and would like to see more done to improve their safety then please get involved and send your own letter; there's a ready made template here.

Dear Dr Cartwright,

RE: Please stop using the word safe in relation to vaccines

I recently read an article in the Liverpool Echo newspaper regarding vaccinations. You were quoted in the article as saying that the MMR vaccination is free, safe and effective.

I am concerned that Public Health England (PHE) is promoting the idea that the MMR vaccine is safe. On the country, a vaccine, like any medicine, is capable of causing serious problems, such as severe allergic reactions; all vaccinations are medical procedures with some degree of associated risk.

The definition of the word safe is: protected from or not exposed to danger or risk; does PHE believe that vaccines are free from risk? The truth is that all vaccinations have side effects ranging from mild to severe. The MMR vaccine has caused serious injury and for a public body to blindly state that it is safe is an insult to all those who have been permanently disabled having received the vaccine; indeed possible reactions to the MMR vaccine include but are not limited to:

Seizure (jerking or staring) caused by fever (about 1 out of 3,000 doses)
Temporary low platelet count, which can cause a bleeding disorder (about 1 out of 30,000 doses)
Serious allergic reaction (less than 1 out of a million doses)
Deafness
Long-term seizures, coma, or lowered consciousness
Permanent brain damage

It is no secret that the UK government regularly makes Vaccine Damage Payments to people who have been left severely disabled as a result of vaccination; the MMR is listed as being eligible for compensation following injury (https://www.gov.uk/vaccine-damage-payment/eligibility). To be eligible for a payment, a claimant has to be at least 60% disabled, this means that those left with a disablement factor of 1-59% will receive nothing. Based on the manufacturers figures it is fair to say that you are statistically more likely to be severely injured following a vaccine then you are to win the UK lottery; except the most you can expect to receive for being 60% disabled is a measly sum of £120k.

I am concerned that PHE are not presenting the public with a balanced view of the risks and benefits of vaccines in general. One of PHE’s responsibilities is to protect the nation from public health hazards. If the potential harm and risks of vaccines is not openly discussed then what incentive is there for the pharmaceutical companies to improve the quality and safety of their vaccines? I would suggest that ignoring the risks associated with vaccines does nothing but cause long-term harm to the health of the public and only serves to undermine trust in public health experts.

I believe that it is disingenuous to use the word safe in relation to vaccines, the US Supreme Court stated in 2011 that:"Vaccines are unavoidably unsafe", I kindly ask that PHE stop calling vaccines safe and simply give the public the facts. With a balanced and unbiased view of the facts the public can make up their own minds about whether the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks.

Thank you for considering my concerns.

Your Sincerely

A Concerned Being
